Where Excellence Is Tradition
Glenbard Township High School District 87 is the fourth largest high school district in Illinois. Dr. David Larson is the superintendent of schools. Glenbard District 87 encompasses 45 square miles within DuPage County, a suburban area some 30 miles west of Chicago. The communities of Glen Ellyn, Carol Stream, Glendale Heights and Lombard lie within the district’s boundaries, along with portions of Bloomingdale, Hanover Park, Addison, Downers Grove, Wheaton and unincorporated areas.
District 87’s four comprehensive high schools serve students in grades 9-12. These schools are: Glenbard East, 1014 S. Main Street, Lombard; Glenbard North, 990 Kuhn Road, Carol Stream; Glenbard South, 23W200 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn; and Glenbard West, 670 Crescent Blvd., Glen Ellyn.
Six K-8 elementary districts lie within the district’s boundaries: Marquardt District 15, Glendale Heights; Queen Bee District 16, Glendale Heights; Lombard Elementary District 44, Lombard; Glen Ellyn Elementary District 41, Glen Ellyn; Community Consolidated District 89, Glen Ellyn; and Community Consolidated District 93, Carol Stream. The School Report Card, published annually by the State of Illinois, provides comparative data that can be used as indices of academic effectiveness and resource management. The School Report Card documents Glenbard’s excellent record in the key areas of performance and accountability. The district’s test scores and graduation rates continue to significantly exceed state averages, while per student operating expense remains below the state average for large high school districts.
Glenbard District 87’s academic offerings include standard and accelerated programs, as well as a comprehensive computer technology program and courses in the humanities, music and art. Advanced career training is available through the Technology Center of DuPage (TCD). Students with special needs are served through a full spectrum of special education programs and services. In addition, each Glenbard high school offers a wide array of extracurricular programs and student support services.
The Glenbard high schools are fully accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education.
